Obituary of Nellie A. Cox

Nellie A. Cox, 83, of Iowa City died Thursday, September 8, 2011, at the Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 13, 2011, at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Nellie's memory to Iowa City Hospice of the American Cancer Society. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Nellie Alline Swartz was born May 28, 1928, in Iowa City the daughter of Glen and Isabelle (Head) Swartz. She attended Iowa City Schools graduating with the Class of 1947 from City High School. She was united in marriage to Clifford Glenn Cox on July 24, 1949, in Cedar Rapids. Nellie was a lifetime resident of Iowa City who was a member of Iowa City Bowling League for many years and the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She enjoyed and was very gifted in sewing, crocheting, and knitting. Nellie loved doing word search puzzles, watching games shows like Jeopardy, and spending time with family and friends. Her family includes sisters-in-law, Janet Swartz of New Jersey; June Cox of Iowa City, and Shirley Yerington of Muscatine; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cliff; and a brother. Nellie's family would like to thank Dr. Clamon and all the staff at Briarwood for their very compassionate quality care of Nellie, you were so good to her!
