She attended schools in Solon graduating from Solon High School with the class of 1944. Following high school she worked in Cedar Rapids for the First Trust & Savings Bank, this is where she first met "Jimmie". Doris and James F. Hoyt were united in marriage on September 16, 1948, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford. The couple made their home briefly in Cedar Rapids before moving to Oxford where they had resided and raised their six children. Doris worked full time at First Trust & Savings Bank in Oxford, Uni-Bank in Coralville, and Hills Bank & Trust until her retirement in 1989, after nearly 34years. She was one who put her family first and sometimes had to take on additional waitressing positions to provide for them. Doris enjoyed spending time with family and taking care of her grandchildren; if there was a need she was there to assist. She enjoyed planting and caring for her "flower garden". She and Jim would occasionally sneak away to spend an afternoon feeding the slot machines solely for the recreational enjoyment and boosting the economy. Her legacy is her love of people and friendships along her journey as they were far more important than any material possessions. Doris was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford and she exemplified unconditional love in her marriage and family. She was ready to meet her Maker and would say to family, "first this world and then the next". She will be greatly missed. Her family includes children, James Hoyt, Richard "John" Hoyt, Thomas (Susan) Hoyt all of Oxford, Michael (Nancy) Hoyt of Tiffin; daughters, Theresa (Eric) Stewart of Oxford, Patricia (John) Hatcher of Iowa City; eleven grandchildren, Heather (Jess) Bergantzel, Jeremy (Megan) Hoyt, Ryan (Emily) Hoyt, Jessica Hoyt, Amber Hoyt, Sara (Jeremiah) Herdliska, Chad (Nikki) Stewart, Kate Stewart (Mike Coon), Joshua (Debbie) Stewart, Jacob (Meredith) Stewart, Kaitlin Hatcher; great-grandchildren, Maddilyn Hoyt and Jake, Kayla and Allison Herdliska. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Jim on August 11, 2008; grandson, Harrison Hatcher; great-granddaughter, Jade Hoyt-MacIntosh; and three sisters, Dorothy Studt, Arlene "Peg" Hipp, and Lucille Clark. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Doris's family and her services.
