Obituary of Donna E. Louvar

Donna E. "Betty" Louvar, 86, of rural North Liberty, died peacefully Monday, December 5, 2011 at her home following a long illness, with the supported care of Iowa City Hospice, surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, December 8, 2011, at the Shueyville United Methodist Church, with burial to follow at the Shueyville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Shueyville United Methodist Church or the Christian Appalachian Fund. Donna Elizabeth Brown was born November 25, 1925, in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Paul and Mary (Herdliska) Brown. She attended Shueyville schools graduating from high school there in 1943. On December 24, 1944, she was united in marriage to Kenneth "Guy" Louvar at the EUB Church in Shueyville. The couple farmed near North Liberty for many years; with Betty dying in the house that has been home for nearly 60 years. As a farmwife she loved the many blessings of this life, her flowers, gardens, neighbors and family. Betty was an avid quilter, having done quilts for most of the family and some friends along the way. She was a very faithful member of the Shueyville United Methodist Church, having taught Sunday School for of 47 years, she continued to receive the perfect attendance award year after year in the church, and at the time of her death, she was the longest living member of the church. Not only did she believe in supporting her local church, she was active in support to the many missions their church supported, including one of her favorites, the Christian Appalachian Project of Kentucky. Her family includes her four children and their spouses, Peggy and Jim Jedlicka; Julie and Everett Eschen; Don and Beth Louvar all of North Liberty; and Tom and Becky Louvar of Coralville; 11 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren; her siblings and their spouses, Dick and Marilyn Brown; Bill and Lyda Brown, and Jane and Carl Colony all of Iowa City. She was preceded in death by her husband, and three sisters, Frances Stimmel, Florence Louvar, and Peggy Louise Brown.
