Obituary of F. Pauline Milder

F. Pauline Milder, 81 of Iowa City died Monday, December 19, 2011, at Windmill Manor Care Center in Coralville. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, December 22, 2011, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. (Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets around the church) Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service where a parish vigil service will be recited at 4:15. There will also be a time of visitation at the church after 9:00 a.m. Thursday until services begin. Burial will be at the Brick Chapel/North Scott Cemetery in rural Johnson County. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to the East Central Iowa Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association (317 7th. Ave. SE, Suite 402. Cedar Rapids, IA 52401). Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @ www.gayandciha.com. Freida Pauline Dohrer was born May 21, 1930, in Iowa City the daughter of Leonard and Elsa (Hopp) Dohrer. She attended Scott Twsp. #4 country school, graduated from City High School in 1948, and from Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls in 1950 with her Teaching Degree. She was united in marriage to Gerald J. Milder on June 24, 1950 in Iowa City. Early in their marriage Pauline taught school in West Liberty, Conesville and Columbus Junction. She then assisted her husband on their farm near West Branch for a number of years before moving to the Dohrer family farm just east of Iowa City in 1973. Later she worked in the University of Iowa Business Office and the First National Bank. Pauline was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Iowa City. Her family includes her husband, Gerald; four sons, Francis (Cheryl) Milder of Cloquet, MN; Daniel (Julie) Milder of Iowa City; Wayne Milder of Iowa City; and Bradley (Mary) Milder of Riverside; five grandchildren, Hailey, Heather, Dirck, Kirsten and Jacob; 1 great-granddaughter, Cierra; brother, Don (Joan) Dohrer of Hatton, MO; sisters, Evelyn Hatcher of Coralville; and Lorna (Don) Grabe of Sisters, OR. She was preceded in death by her parents, a grandson, Travis Milder, and a brother and his wife, Merlyn and Carolyn Dohrer.
