Obituary of Elaine M. Sedlacek

Elaine M. Sedlacek, 71, of rural Tiffin, died Friday, January 27, 2012, at home surrounded by her family. Funeral mass will be 10 a.m., Tuesday January 31, 2012, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford with burial to follow at Oak Hill Cemetery near Tiffin. Visitation will be from 4-8 p.m. Monday at the church with a Parish Rosary beginning at 7 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made in Elaine's name to Iowa City Hospice or St. Mary's Catholic Church in Oxford to be used towards mass. Elaine Marie (Zach) Sedlacek was born October 4, 1940, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa; daughter of George and Marie (Detert) Zach. She grew up in rural Swisher and graduated from Oxford High School in 1959. On April 2, 1959 she married Russell O. "Butch" Sedlacek at St. Mary's in Oxford. Elaine was a member of St. Mary's Alter and Rosary Society and believed strongly in her faith and the Rosary. Previously she had taught Catechism and was a passionate supporter of the Fatima Crusaders. For many years she ran Country Arts, Antiques and Gifts from her home, selling the arts and crafts items she created with her close friend, Dode Morgan. She was an avid artist, talented musician and dancer. She loved wildlife and enjoyed learning about and feeding the birds around her home; especially the blue birds and cardinals. She will be missed by her family which includes her children, Debbie (Steve) Knutzen of Dekalb, IL, Rodney (Jeanine) Sedlacek of Solon, Mark (Bridgette) Sedlacek of Tiffin, Gary (Colleen) Sedlacek of North Liberty and Lori (Steve) Becicka of Oxford; grandchildren, Billy, Moria, Theresa, Michael, Nicole, Jake, Caleb, Wyatt, Mackenzie, Morgen, Max, Sophia, Alison, Lincoln and Quintin; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Roman (Peggy) Zach; sister, Betty Ann Merta; sisters-in-law, Mary Ann (Bob) Johnston and Pat Sedlacek as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins which all had a special place in her heart. She was preceded in death by her husband, Russell "Butch" Sedlacek; parents; brother, Robert Zach; brothers-in-law, Michael Sedlacek and Marvin Merta; sisters-in-law, Sandra Richardson, Elaine Zach and Gerry Zach.
