Obituary of Jonah Burdette Frieden

Jonah Burdette Frieden, infant son of Joan Frieden, was born silently into our world on February 7, 2012, at 4:20 pm. He weighed 1 pound 5 ounces and measured 12 inches long. Jonah's mother was privileged to carry him for 5 months and was impressed with his activity. He was a strong kicker and tumbler. Jonah was excitedly anticipated by both his mother and his big sister Finley (age 2), who gave him his name. On the evening of January 4th, Finley placed her hands on her mother's cheeks and stated, "Tiny, tiny baby is a boy. His name is Jonah." On January 23rd, they found out they were indeed expecting a boy. Celebration turned to sorrow as news of problems with the pregnancy were revealed. Jonah died inside his mother's womb and was born still at the University of Iowa Hospitals. Joan found out the name Jonah means dove, an animal that has held special meaning to her for many years. Jonah shares the name Burdette with his Great-Grandfather Olson, deceased, and his Uncle Mark - both strong men, who have shown a tender compassion toward children. A private memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 11. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jonah's memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web at www.gayandciha.com. In addition to Jonah's mother, Joan, and his sister, Finley, of North Liberty, his family includes his Grandparents Karen and David Frieden of Swisher; his Uncle Jeff and cousins Courtney, Sara and Vanessa of Cedar Rapids; and his Uncle Mark, Aunt Amber and cousins William and Amelia of Poynette, WI. Special appreciation is given to the caring staff at the University of Iowa Hospitals, Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Services and the Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep organization.
