Obituary of Max M. McCue

Max M. McCue, 96, of Iowa City, died Tuesday, February 14, 2012, at the Briarwood Health Care Center in Iowa City. Graveside services are planned for 1:00 p.m., Monday, February 20, 2012, at the Westlawn Hillcrest Cemetery in Omaha, NE. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Max's memory to the Carter Lake Senior Center @ 626 Locust Street, Carter Lake, IA 51510. Online condolences can be sent for his family through the @ www.gayandciha.com. Max M. McCue was born December 11, 1915, near Walnut, Iowa, the son of William and Rose (Worley) McCue. Following high school, Max enlisted in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He married Hildreth R. Haynes on December 19, 1950. The couple and their family made Carter Lake, Iowa, their home for many years. Max was employed with Safeway Grocery Store for over 15 years, and then Campbell Soups where he retired from. Hildreth, his wife of forty-four years died on April 4, 1995. In 2002, Max decided to leave Carter Lake and move to Iowa City where he could be closer to his son, Mike and his family. Max's family includes his children, Margaret Jensen of Branchville, SC; Mike McCue (Paula) of Iowa City; Malcolm McCue (Tammie) of Glenwood, IA; and Christine Feltus of Sylvester, GA; 14 grandchildren, and numerous great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, and four brothers, Doyle, Don, Dudley, and Leslie McCue.
