Obituary of Kathleen C. Donahue

Kathleen C. Donahue, 93 lifetime Iowa City area resident died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Mercy Hospital surrounded by her family. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2012, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City, with burial to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday (today) at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Kathleen Cecelia McCabe was born July 25, 1918, near Cosgrove, Iowa the daughter of John T. and Martha A. (Cooney) McCabe. She married Edward S. Carson on September 10, 1940, he died on June 25, 1949. Kathleen married Clement J. Donahue on February 3, 1950, he died on April 22, 1978. Kathleen was a devoted wife, mother, proud grandmother and great-grandmother. Throughout the years she worked at the University of Iowa in Student Services at West Lawn, Burge and Currier Halls, also in the role as housemother for the Mercy School of Nursing. She was a longtime member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Iowa City and prior to this at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Hills. Her family includes her four children and their spouses, Mary Ann (Robert) Vercande of Hills; Eddie (Robert) Knebel of Riverside; Steve (Ann) Donahue of Iowa City; and Bill (Chris) Donahue of Iowa City; grandchildren, Kim Vercande, Steve Vercande, Bridget Donahue, Katie Donahue, Keri (Knebel) Johnson and her husband, Chris, Ashton Donahue, and Shannon Donahue, one great-granddaughter, Brynn Johnson and was excited knowing that another great-grandchild was on the way! Kathleen was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, Edward and Clement, and her siblings, Rita Cambre, Willhemenia Burns, Leonard McCabe, Josephine Scheetz,and Victorine McCabe. Kathleen's family wishes to extend their thanks and appreciation to her physicians, nurses and caregivers who provided loving care to our mother!
