Obituary of Clarice Arlene Vance

Clarice Arlene (Anderson) Vance, passed away in the home of her daughter in Iowa City, Iowa, on July 18, 2012, surrounded by her daughters and granddaughter. She was under the care of Iowa City Hospice. Clarice was a resident of Iowa City for ten years. She enjoyed memberships in three bridge groups and was a devout member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church. She was quoted as saying recently that she was "a good Norwegian Lutheran." Her family nods yes to that! Clarice was born October 26, 1922, the second of four children to Gilbert and Stella (Odden) Anderson on a farm in rural Osage. She married William "Bill" Vance of Osage in 1946, raised five children, and lived in many cities managing home, family and career. Clarice had a passion for painting. Landscapes and flowers were her favorite subjects. In her later years, she included greeting cards in her repertoire using watercolors to paint the birds and flowers she new well from the feeder and gardens outside her window. Clarice was also known for her cookies, especially her ginger snap cookies. Children and grandchildren looked forward to receiving special packages of cookies at holidays and birthdays. Clarice is survived by her daughter Cynthia A. Hanson, Minnetonka, MN, son Mark (Mary Kay) Vance, Shoreview, MN, daughters Jody M. Gates, Iowa City, IA, Lori J. (Tom) Raife, Iowa City, IA and Jana K. (Ryan Murphy) Vance, Fairfax, CA, nine grandchildren, and six great grandchildren and brother Gerald W. (Karen) Anderson, Boone, IA. Memorial services are planned for September 28, 2012, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Osage, Iowa. Online condolences may be sent to Clarice's family through the web @www.gayandciha.com.
