Obituary of Sharlene Joan Lenhart

Sharlene "Sharry" Lenhart was called home by her Lord Jesus Christ on March 22, 2016. There will be two gatherings to honor and reflect on Sharry's life. One will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 22, 2016, at Saint Patrick's Parish Hall in Tama, Iowa; and the other will be from 2 to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 28, 2016, at Saint Joseph's Parish Hall in Hills, Iowa. Sharry was born March 1, 1943, in Tama, Iowa, to Johnnie H. and Hilda (Kesl) Lenhart. She received a primary education at St. Patrick's Catholic school and graduated from Tama High School. She received her B.A. from University of Northern Iowa, postgraduate education from University of Minnesota at Blue Earth Lomo Linda University, The University of Iowa, and University of Northern Iowa resulting in a Specialist in Education Degree in 1971. She taught secondary English and Psychology from 1966-1975. She moved to Iowa City and began working at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in 1975 and then joined the Department of English as a program coordinator until her retirement—a job she thoroughly enjoyed. Sharry enjoyed University of Iowa wrestling and football, Atlanta Braves baseball, politics, reading, gardening, traveling, and spending time with friends, family, and colleagues. She is fondly remembered by friends who received "starts" from her beautiful perennial gardens. She was a member of St. Joseph's Catholic in Hills, Iowa, Isaak Walton League AFSCME, Democratic Party, and H.A.W.K. wrestling club. Sharry was preceded in death by her beloved parents Johnnie and Hilda. Survivors include a sister: Rose Gildea (John), Lilburn, Georgia; nephew Joe Gildea (Lauren), Avondale Estates, Georgia; three nieces: Dawn Kinard (B.J.), Murrell's Inlet, South Carolina; Ruth Taylor (John) , Atlanta, Georgia, and Karen Gildea, Hull, Georgia; several great-nieces and nephews; and many, many friends. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to The University of Iowa Department of English, Iowa Hawkeye Wrestling, or Iowa City Hospice.
