Obituary of Debra A. Sladek

Debra Ann “Debbie” Sladek, 66, of Iowa City passed away on Wednesday, March 6th at the University of Iowa Hospital following a long illness.

A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Hills, Iowa with Father Hai officiating, beginning at 10am Saturday, March 9th. A visitation will be held at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service from 4 to 6 pm Friday, March 8th. Debbie will be buried in Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to help with funeral expenses or given to Camp Courageous on behalf of Debbie.

Debbie was born on February 2nd, 1957 in Iowa City, to Ralph and Phyllis Sladek. Debbie will be remembered as fiercely independent, self-sufficient, a lover of animals, as well as kind and generous to all people. Her warm, exuberant spirit and beautiful laugh will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Debbie was a registered donor and her gifts will help many other people in need.

Debbie is survived by her mother, Phyllis Sladek, her sister, Kay Evans, her nephew Brian Evans (Jen Evans), her great nieces and nephew Cheyanne Evans, Skyler Evans, and Zadie Knapp, her best friends Jacque Collett and Joseph Green, as well as many friends and cousins in the community.

Debbie was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Sladek, her baby sister Bea, and her brother Don.
