Obituary of Whitney T. Claybon

Whitney was born September 17, 1989, in Chicago, IL, to Alberta Carter (Rochella Morrow) and Herman Claybon. She was the third child of five siblings.

Whitney attended Carrie Jacobs Bond Elementary School in Chicago. Along with her family, she later moved to Minneapolis, MN, where she attended Roosevelt High School. Whitney completed her senior year at Iowa City High School.

Whitney was the life of the party, always smiling, enthusiastic, and high-spirited. She enjoyed Reading, shooting dice, going for walks, listening to music, dancing, and most of all spending time with her three boys and family. She was a devoted daughter, mother, and sister.

Whitney passed away at the University of Iowa Hospital on March 25, 2024, surrounded by her dad Herman (Sarah), stepmother Rochella, and sister Catherine.

Left to cherish her memories include her dad, Herman (Sarah) Claybon; stepmom, Rochella Morrow Carter; 3 children, Jaylen Z. Carter, Cedrick D. Smith Jr., and Keon’Tae M. Smith; brothers, Wesley (Nina) Carter and Drylon Claybon; sister, Catherine Claybon and Alana Bryant; and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

She was preceded in death by her mother Alberta Michelle “Bubblegum” Carter.

Family funeral services will be taking place. The family would like to thank Elder Bernadine Franks and the staff at Faith Academy of Iowa City, and Park View Church for the help and support during this time. Also, a thank you to the family and friends for the donations, phone calls, prayers, and support.

Whitney will be greatly missed by those who knew her as she touched the lives of so many people.
