Obituary of Ella Mae Harris

Ella Mae Harris, 91, lifelong resident of Iowa City, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Crestview Nursing & Rehabilitation Center in West Branch. She had made her home at Bickford Cottage for several years prior to her illness. Funeral services will be held 5:00 Saturday, July 19, 2014 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Arnette Pint officiating. Visitation will be Saturday 3:00-5:00 (two hours prior to the service) at the funeral home. Family graveside services will be at Oakland Cemetery at a later time. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Ronald McDonald House Charities, or St. Mark's Methodist Church. Online condolences may be sent for Ella's family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Ella Mae Goody was born October 28, 1922 in Iowa City, Iowa the daughter of Glenn and Clara (Schump) Goody. She attended Iowa City schools, graduating from City High School in 1941, and later from the Iowa City Commercial College. Prior to her marriage she worked as a bookkeeper at Iowa Water Service Company. On August 28, 1951 she married Dale C. Harris. Ella was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church where she was involved with United Methodist Women. Her family includes her sister, Edith Swails of Iowa City; nephew Jerry Swails and his wife, Christine Taylor of Iowa City; nephew Jerry Harris and his wife Joanne of Normandy Park, WA; nephew Denny's wife, Jeanne Goody of Coon Valley, WI; niece Susan Heine and her husband, Henry of Janesville, IA; and sister-in-law Shirley Harris (Lester d.) of Iowa City. Ella was preceded in death by her parents, husband Dale in 1998; three brothers, Clifford, Maurice, and Lawrence Goody; brother-in-law, Daryl Swails; one niece, Jean Swails; and one nephew, Dennis Goody.
