Obituary of Hazel D. Fountain
Hazel D. Fountain, 98 of Silver Pines Care Center, Cedar Rapids, formerly of Lone Tree and Iowa City areas died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Silver Pines following a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. A reception will be held at the funeral home following the services. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at the funeral home. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to the American Heart Association. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Hazel Della Thomas Fountain was born October 30, 1908, on the family farm near Lone Tree, Iowa the daughter of Fred and Mary (Soukup) Thomas. She married Alonzo M. Fountain on December 30, 1926, in Lone Tree. The couple farmed in the Lone Tree area for many years before moving to Iowa City in 1955. She worked for the University of Iowa a number of years before retirement. Alonzo died December 6, 1968. Hazel enjoyed traveling with family and friends, she kept busy with cooking, gardening, quilting, crocheting and sewing for her family. When on the farm the neighborhood card games were a weekly event all looked forward to. Her family includes her children, Lilburne and his wife, Maxine Fountain of New Market, TN; Dolores Davis of Cedar Rapids; and Della Lovetinsky and her husband, Calvin of West Branch; 8 grandchildren, Kim Stapleton, John Fountain, Dennis Davis, Lynn Crook, Lon Davis, Samuel Davis, Lisa Nearad, and Lynn Lovetinsky; and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant daughter, 7 brothers, and 6 sisters.
