Obituary of Robert C. Randall

Robert C. Randall, 88 of 701 Oaknoll Drive, formerly of 2132 Leonard Circle, Iowa City died Wednesday, March 21, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2007, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Kyle Otterbein officiating. Family graveside services will be held at Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in Robert’s memory to Iowa City Hospice. Robert Cole Randall was born February 13, 1919, in West Branch, Michigan the son of Emmons and Clara (Cole) Randall. He graduated from Cranbrook High School in Bloomfield Hills, MI, and received his BA Degree in Economics from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York in 1941. During WWII he served in the United States Air Force as a bomber pilot flying missions in a B-17 out of England. During this time he became a prisoner of war, also he received the Purple Heart for being wounded in action. On April 13, 1943, Bob married Marjorie Daly in Ephrata, Washington. He started his career as an industrial engineer with Proctor and Gamble in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 1956 he and his family moved to Iowa City where he worked with P&G until his retirement in 1980. Marjorie died March 18, 1988. He married Alberta Hall February 18, 1989, here in Iowa City. Bob is a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church, former member of First Presbyterian Church both of Iowa City. He is a member of Iowa City Noon Rotary where he was the recipient of the Will J. Hayek award in 1997. Bob served on the Iowa City Community School Board for two terms, serving as board president from 1963-1964. Former member of the Board of Directors for Goodwill, Oaknoll Retirement Residence, Hawkeye Real Estate Investment Corporation, and Elderly Services. He has been actively involved in the Meals on Wheels Program and volunteering at the Salvation Army. His family includes his wife, Alberta; children, Bill Randall and his wife, Patricia of North Augusta, SC; Mary Bailey and her husband, George of Columbus, MT; Ann Murray and her husband, James of Iowa City; David Hall and his wife, Lynn of Marshalltown, IA and James Hall and his wife, Allison of Portland, OR; nine grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Marjorie; brother, Emmons Randall, son-in-law, David Elliott Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Robert’s family and his services.
