Obituary of Earl Harold Croskey

Earl H. Croskey, 91 of 1020 S. Scott Blvd., Iowa City died Saturday, March 17, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Renee Lunemann officiating. Visitation will be on Friday from 6 to 8pm at the funeral home where Masonic Memorial Services will be held at 8pm. As per Earl’s request, his earthly remains were donated for research through the University of Iowa. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Camp Courageous, Amenity Hospice, or the Iowa City Masonic Lodge. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Earl Harold Croskey was born December 25, 1915, in Robinson, Iowa the son of Ernest and Amy (Topliff) Croskey. Growing up in Manchester he attended schools there graduating from Manchester High School. On August 28, 1938, he married Lucille M. Maulson in Manchester. Lucille died April 15, 1983. He later married Louise Pauley on October 22, 1987. For many years Earl was associated with local auto service stations, and prior to his retirement he worked in security for the Department of Corrections at the Oakdale facility. He was a member of the Jessamine Chapter No. 135 of O.E.S., Iowa City Masonic Lodge No. 4, Consistory of Cedar Rapids, Iowa City Shrine, active in the Camel Wheels; and a member of the KAABA Shrine. Earl enjoyed the outdoors, traveling, hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed his gifts as a woodworker. But his pride and joy was his house in the country he built after his retirement, putting many of his talents and gifts to work. His family includes his three children, Patricia Westcott of Webster City, IA, Priscilla Blecha of Warsaw, IL, and Phillip Croskey and his wife, Reverend Denise Croskey of Holmes City, MN; grandchildren, Tracy Bartlett and her husband, Gary, Lisa Schaa and her husband, Doug, SuSana Blecha, Jose Blecha, and Kristin Eklund and her husband, Todd; three great-grandchildren, Taylor, Madison, and Hannah. Earl’s wife, Louise and her children, Glen Pauley and his wife, Ann of Coralville, Anna Mae Miller and her husband, Charles of Iowa City; six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; Earl’s brother and sister, Walter Croskey and his wife, Genevieve of Manchester; and Roberta Zehr of Manchester. Earl was preceded in death by his wife, Lucille, and two sisters, Betty Brewster and Vivian Helgen. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Earl’s family and his services.
