Obituary of Ivan J. Struzynski

Ivan J. Struzynski, 76, of 2277 250th Street NW, North Liberty died Saturday, April 7, 2007 surrounded by his family at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa, following a long illness. Funeral mass will be held 4:00 p.m. Wednesday, April 11, 2007, at St. Mary Catholic Church in Oxford, Iowa with the Reverend Edmond Dunn officiating. Burial with Military Rites will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Oxford. Visitation will be at the church 3:00 – 7:00 p.m. Tuesday. A vigil service will be held at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to Iowa City Hospice, Oxford First Responders or St. Mary Catholic Church, Oxford. Ivan was born November 20, 1930 on the family farm Northeast of Oxford, Iowa, the son of Felix and Martha (Wisnousky) Struzynski. Ivan attended country school, Oxford High School and graduated from the University of Iowa in 1959. On April 25, 1957 Ivan was united in marriage to Mary Ernst at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Cedar Rapids. They would have been married 50 years on April 25, 2007. Ivan served in the U.S. Army from December, 1952 to December, 1954. He was a lifelong farmer, caring for the land and raising cattle. He was a member of several farm organizations, the American Legion Oxford Post 537 and St. Mary Catholic Church, Oxford. Ivan enjoyed hunting, fishing, mushroom hunting, playing cards and spending time with his family. He loved music and was a talented accordion player entertaining family and friends on many occasions. He also enjoyed dancing and attending polka fests with his wife, Mary. Ivan is survived by his wife; two daughters, Vicki Olson and her husband Jim, of Tiffin, and Kathy Kral and her husband Tom, of North Liberty; grandchildren, Jonathan (J.J.) Olson and fiancé Sarah Schulz, Brandon Olson, Anthony Olson, Anastasia Kral, Miranda Kral and Ashley Kral. Also surviving are two great-granddaughters, Lelaina and Alexandra Olson. Preceding him in death were his parents and a brother, Lambert. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Ivan’s family and service.
