Obituary of Dessel P. Miller

Dessel P. Miller, 79 of 323 Brown Street, Iowa City died Sunday, May 6, 2007, from complications of cancer. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Wednesday, May 9, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery, followed by a reception for family and friends at the Moose Lodge in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in her memory to Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Dessel Pauline Yoder Miller was born March 20, 1928, near Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Cornelius H. Yoder and Eugena J. (Testroet) Yoder. She attended rural country schools in the Wellman area. On October 1, 1949, she married Cecil L. Miller in Davenport, Iowa. The couple were longtime Iowa City residents where for a number of years Dessel worked in the Athletic Department of the University of Iowa. She was a member of the Congregational Church of Christ in Iowa City, lifetime member of the Elks Club, and one of the founding members of NSHPIITH. She enjoyed supporting the Iowa Hawkeye’s, but most important to her was her family, especially her grandchildren. Her family includes two sons and their wives, Keith L. Miller and Deborah Scott-Miller, and Carlan D. Miller and Rebecca Miller all of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Greg and Ellyn Miller; sisters, Bernice Darnold of Malvern, IA, Leila Stroeh of Lacrosse, WI, Margaret Brogla of Coralville, and Janice Wenman of Coralville; brother, Marvin C. Yoder of West Chester, IA. Dessel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Cecil (04/10/2003), sisters, Glennis Yoder (infancy), Wilma Rhodebeck, and Doris Patterson, and one brother, Donald Yoder.
