Obituary of Leo A. Holderness

Leo A. Holderness, 76 of Ainsworth, formerly of the Iowa City area died Sunday, May 13, 2007, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 Friday, May 18, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial with military honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Leo was born May 21, 1930, in Iowa City the son of Eva Mae Holderness and Edward U. Rodgers. He attended schools in Iowa City. During the Korean Conflict he served his country in the United States Army. H married Marilyn Maxine Eash, later he married Mary Catharine Bell. He has worked in this area all of his life, as a mechanic at a number of local service stations and garages, and for a number of years as head custodian for the Iowa City Community Schools. He had been a member of the Solon American Legion Post No. 460. His family includes daughters, Connie Conners of Ainsworth, Cheryl Dorothy (Rick) of Ainsworth, and Carol Jones of Coralville; sons, Carl Holderness of Iowa City and Rodney Holderness of Washington, Iowa; step-sons, Rex Graham of San Diego, CA, Bruce Graham (Callene) of Port Arthur, TX, Clay Graham (Julie) of Coralville, and Alexander Bell of Texas; step-daughters, Linda Nichols (Robert) of Pavion, WY, Cheryl Machovec (Mike) of Springville, IA, Mary Evans (Doug) of Iowa City, Yvette Yansky (Doug) of Iowa City, Annette Mumford (Guy) of Iowa City, and Patricia Rammelsberg (Ralph) of Keota; sisters, Sandy Maher (Larry) of West Branch, and Mary Sue Siems (Robert) of Iowa City; brother, Joseph Rodgers (Cheryle) of Iowa City; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Leo was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Mary; son, Jimmy Allen; grandsons, Sean Garrett Connors, and Ron Eugene Jones; brothers, Lowell Holderness and Edward Rodgers Jr.
