Obituary of William H. Snyder

William H. “Bill” Snyder Jr., 91 formerly of Solon died Tuesday, May 8, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Cedar Rapids. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Friday, May 11, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Burial will be at the Oakland Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 3 to 7pm Thursday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to Hospice. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Bill was born February 24, 1916, in Kalona, Iowa the son of William H. Snyder Sr. and Clara Bender Snyder. He has lived in the Iowa City, Solon, Oxford areas most of his life. Here he farmed, worked for many years at the University Hospital School, drove school bus for the Solon Schools, drove truck for Kent Feeds, and returned to Hospital School where he drove the van for transporting the children. Bill was a life member of the F.O.E. of Iowa City. His family includes his children, Charlotte (Sam) Hill of Harpers Ferry, IA, Phyllis (Bill) Hodina of Cedar Rapids, Bill Snyder III of Solon, Bob (Lynn) Snyder of Coralville, Mike (Dale Ann) Snyder of Bloomington, MN, Pam Gustoff of Riverside, and Judy Snyder and partner, Jerry Fankhauser of Lone Tree; 10 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, John Snyder of Kalona, and Delbert Snyder of South Carolina; 3 sisters, Maggie Budreaux of Brownsville, TX, Ruby Greazel of Iowa City, and Nellie Vitosh of Davenport. Bill was preceded in death by his wives, Ula and Anne; 2 daughters in infancy, Marilyn and Doris; grandson, Guy Niffenegger; son-in-law, Robert Gustoff; 3 brothers, and 3 sisters.
