Obituary of Betty Faye Stoner

Betty Faye Stoner, 81, of 1122 East Washington Street, Iowa City died Thursday, May 31, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 4, 2007, at the Church of the Nazarene in Iowa City with the Reverend David Lynch officiating. Burial will be at Ridgewood Cemetery in North Liberty. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 pm Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City and after 10 am at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made in Betty’s memory to the American Diabetes Association, Johnson County Humane Society or the charity of your choice. Online condolences may be sent for Betty’s family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Betty Faye June was born May 3, 1926, in Wilmar, CA, the daughter of Raymond A. June and Maude (Hammer) June. Her family moved to the Oxford and Iowa City area where she attended school in Oxford and later in Iowa City, including City High School. On September 28, 1943, she married Earl R. Stoner in Iowa City and then resided on the family farm in North Liberty. For many years she worked in Food Service at the University of Iowa, retiring in 1998. She has been a longtime active member of the Church of the Nazarene in Iowa City. Betty had many interests and passions in her life, including her love of animals, quilting, cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes and the Chicago Cubs, but nothing was dearer to her heart than her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren! Her family includes her children and their spouses, Kenneth Stoner (Jane) of Hiawatha, Alan Stoner (Carol) of Puyallup, WA, John Stoner (Ann) of Endicott, WA, Carolyn Nelson (Clifford) of Des Moines, Robert Stoner (Pat) of Newnan, GA, Sharon Eggers (Bill) of Tiffin, and Ronald Stoner (Joanne) of North Liberty; 15 grandchildren and their spouses, Kevin Stoner, Susan Nelson (Jerry), Tracy Stoner (Linda), Staci Saunders (Darron), Keith Stoner, John Stoner, Michelle Stoner, Annette Foutch (Tim), Nathan Stoner, Adam Stoner (Ashley), Sherry Jiras (Steve), Kelly Wyant (Levi), Kristyn Schulte (Adam), Alison Stoner, and Kyle Stoner; 15 great-grandchildren, Natasha, Taylin, Brynne, Collin, Madison, Brody, Summer, Katie, Jackson, Emily, Jacob, Austin, Alex, Aiden, and Raegan; her brother, Clyde June (Pat) of Central Point, OR; and her beloved dog, Riley. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Earl; grandson, Damon Stoner, daughter-in-law, Janice Stoner, and a brother, Coleman June.
