Obituary of Sarah E. Darby

Sarah Edna Darby formerly of 1500 First Avenue, Coralville died Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Lantern Park Nursing & Rehab Center. Memorial services will be held 10:00 am Tuesday, June 12, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Graveside services will be at 2:00pm Tuesday at the Ollie Cemetery in Ollie, Iowa. Memorial donation may be made to the family of Sarah E. Darby. Online condolences may be sent to her family through our website @www.gayandciha.com. Sarah Edna was born February 12, 1911, in Ollie, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Clara Fannie (Corpron) Darby. She graduated from Ollie high school and later went on to the University of Northern Iowa where she graduated in 1952 with her teaching degree. Sarah Edna was a teacher for many different schools before finding the Clinton school district, where she taught for nearly 30 years. On January 16, 1976 she retired from teaching, and shortly after that she moved to Coralville. She was a member of Coralville United Methodist Church and the Iowa City Senior Center. Sarah Edna's family includes her great nephew's Dale Akins (Aurora) of Bettendorf; and George Akins of Cedar Rapids; her sister-in-law, Bernice Darby of Ainsworth, niece's, Marilyn Hixson (Robert) of Albia; Janice Rentfro of San Pablo CA; and nephew, Dave Darby (Michelle) of Lawrenceville GA. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents, sister, Faye Morgan; two brothers, Willard Darby and Frank Darby and a great nephew, Donovan Darby.
