Obituary of Glenn F. Frenzen

Glenn F. Frenzen, 86, of 2801 Highway 6 East, Iowa City died Wednesday, June 6, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. He died of complications from diabetes. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, June 11, 2007 at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Iowa City with the Reverend John Caldwell officiating. Burial with Military Honors will be held at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. Sunday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. There will be a Masonic Memorial Service held at 6 p.m. Glenn, the son of Frank and Lillie (Stacy) Frenzen, was born December 19, 1920, in Fullerton, Nebraska. He graduated from Fullerton High in 1939, went on to receive his B.S. and Masters degrees from Northeast State Teachers College(Truman State University) in Kirksville, MO. During World War II, he served his country in the United States Navy. On March 9, 1947, Glenn married Lorene Dinger in Kahoka, Missouri. For many years he taught secondary education in Iowa and Missouri. They retired to Knox, IN and moved to Iowa City in 1993 to be near family. In Knox, IN, Glenn was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 639 A.F. & A.M. He was a member of the Orak Shrine in Michigan City, IN; in Iowa City area he was a member of the Clarksville Lodge No 668 A.F. & A.M. in Coralville; and the Bethlehem White Shrine and Shrine Club of Iowa City. Glenn was a member of the Handicapped Travel Club. He and Lorene loved traveling and camping, belonged to a number of camping groups over the years including Good Sam’s. He was a man that enjoyed the outdoors, hunting and fishing. He loved woodworking and crafts, and those who knew him knew his great wit! His family includes his wife of sixty years, Lorene; three children and their spouses, Ronald Frenzen and Sarah of Tecumseh, MI; Darold Frenzen and Melinda of Kansas City, MO; and Judy Steffen and Jim of Iowa City; six grandchildren, Ellen Lower and her husband, Brian, Abby Frenzen, Janae Steffen, Kari Steffen, Nicki Steffen, and Jake Steffen. Glenn was preceded in death by his parents, and two brothers, and one sister. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Glenn’s memory to Pathway Adult Day Care or The Children’s Shrine Hospital in Chicago.
