Obituary of Leone M. Evans

Leone M. Evans, 84, of 742 Rundell St. Iowa City, died Thursday, June 21, 2007 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics due to an extended illness. A gathering of friends and family will be held Sunday, June 24, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Gay and Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. An additional gathering of friends and family will be held Thursday, June 28, 2007 from 2 to 4 p.m. in Osage at the Champion-Bucheit Funeral Home. Burial will be at Little Cedar Cemetery in Little Cedar, Iowa. Online condolences may be sent for her family through our website at www.gayandciha.com. Leone Evans was born in Little Cedar, Iowa on November 10, 1922, the daughter of Eugene and Blanche (Elliott) Barker. She married Clifford Lavern Evans in 1941. Leone worked many jobs throughout her life. She taught in Keokuk in 1961 then moved to Iowa City where she earned her Masters Degree in both Business and Accounting. She worked in Iowa City for 15 years at the University of Iowa Eye Clinic and Business Office. Leone then moved to Chicago where she worked as a tax auditor for 25 years. In the 1990's she retired and moved back to Iowa City where she was an avid bowler and a member of the Accounting Society. Leone's family includes her three sons, Martin Lavern Evans of Rock Island, IL, Ronald Alan Evans of Iowa City, and Douglas Lee Evans of Rochester, NY; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Leone was preceded in death by her parents, and husband, Clifford who passed away in 1946.
