Obituary of Helen Anna Oliver

Helen Anna Oliver, 85 of Parkview Manor Nursing Home, in Wellman, Iowa went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, July 5, 2007. Helen was born in Haydenville, MA. to Walter and Anna Wojack. She grew up in New Britain Connecticut where she met James Oliver Jr. and was married on May 24, 1947. They then moved to Long Island New York, where Helen was a member of the Manorville Fire Dept Auxiliary team, and the Manorville Elementary School PTA. They raised 6 children there, and then moved to Spencer, New York in1968 where they lived for 12 years before retiring to Inglis, Florida. Jim passed away in Florida 3 years later, but Helen remained for several years before moving back to Spencer where she lived near her daughter Marjorie. In 2005 she moved to Iowa to live with her oldest daughter Elizabeth. Helen then moved to Silver Pond assisted living in Wellman for a year. She moved into Parkview Manor Nursing home last August. Helen loved to grow African Violets, do jigsaw puzzles, crochet, sew, and knit. She made over 1,000 lap robes and wheelchair bags for Veteran’s Hospitals in New York and Iowa. She has crocheted items that appear in many homes all over the United States. Helen loved to travel, and spend time visiting her children and grandchildren. She is survived by her 6 children, Elizabeth Binder, (Michael) of Iowa City, Marjorie Cummings, (Robert) of Spencer New York, James Oliver, (Barbara) of Ontario New York, William Oliver, (Cathy) of Chesapeake Virginia, Susan Marz, (Charles) of Richmond Kentucky, & Kathryn Kuba (Robert), of Point, Texas. Helen has 14 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Jim. Helen has been flown to Beverly Hills Florida for a graveside service and was laid to rest beside her husband Jim. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Francis Catholic Church in Catatonk, NY, at a later date. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City, Iowa handled local arrangements.
