Obituary of Richard X. Spratt

Richard Xavier Spratt, 84 of Oxford died Sunday, July 8, 2007 at Mercy Hospital, in Iowa City due to a brief illness. Funeral services will be held at 5 p.m., Wednesday, July 11, 2007 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford. Burial will be at Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be after 9 a.m. Wednesday until services. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Oxford First Responders. Online condolences may be sent for Richard's family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Richard was born March 3, 1923, to Bernard and Anna Mary (Reading) Spratt, on a farm near Parnell. He was married on September 1, 1949 to Doris Willoughby. He was a member of the Oxford Cemetery Board for 27 years. Richard's first love was always his family and farming. Richard's family includes wife Doris Spratt; three daughters Helen Bleth (Raymond) of Chicago, IL, Karla Spratt of Coralville, Linda Thoren (Kenneth Ward) of Chelsea; a son Thomas Spratt (Mary) of Oxford; two sisters, Winifred Halland of Iowa City, Luella TePoel of Solon; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, two brothers Bill and Bernard; and two sisters Genevieve and Anna.
