Obituary of James V. Hutchins

James V. Hutchins, 81 formerly of Coralville died Tuesday, September 4, 2007, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, September 8, 2007, at Oak Hill Cemetery in Coralville with Full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Jim’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. James Vernon Hutchins was born March 31, 1926 in Woodward, OK, the son of Roy and Tresea (VonSchritz) Hutchins. Following high school he enlisted with the United States Navy serving aboard the USS Maryland during World War II. On July 9, 1955, he married Betty L. Hubbard in Denver, Colorado. The couple moved to the Coralville area where for many years he worked as a drywall contractor, known by many as “Hutch” in his business, Hutchins Drywall. Jim enjoyed life, from golfing, race horses, to his many friends through the years. His family includes his daughter, Carol Strabala and her husband, Mike of Iowa City; grandson, Chris Strabala and his wife, Tessa of North Liberty, and granddaughter, Staff Sgt. Ashley Strabala of the United States Air Force, presently stationed in San Antonio, Texas; and former wife, Betty Hutchins of Iowa City. Other members of his family includes his siblings, Claude Hutchins of Oklahoma City, OK. Hazel Hall of Yukon, OK, and Joy Hoffman of Guyman, OK. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Dean Hutchins, and sisters, Leona Johnston and Margrete Carlton. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Jim’s family and his services.
