Obituary of Doris R. Rank

Doris R. “Tubby” Rank, 87 of 3 Kirkwood Circle, Iowa City died Wednesday, September 12, 2007, at Legacy Point in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 15, 2007, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City with the Reverend Jeff Belger officiating. Burial will be at the Immaculate Conception Cemetery of Armah, near North English, Iowa. There will visitation from 4 to 7pm Friday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City and after 11:30 a.m. Saturday until services at the church. A time of fellowship and refreshments will be held from 11:30 am till 12:30 on Saturday at the church. Sunday parking ordinance will be in effect for the streets near the church. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Legacy Point Campus. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Doris Ruth Rank was born March 31, 1920, in rural Iowa County, Iowa the daughter of Jacob and Sarah (Pfeister) Rank. Following graduation from Keswick High School in 1938 she went on to receive her nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing in Iowa City in 1945. For a number of years she worked as a nurse in private practice, for more than 20 years she worked as a nurse at the University of Iowa Student Health. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. She enjoyed quilting, knitting, antiques, and the outdoors and it’s wildlife. Her family includes her brother, Lloyd Rank and his wife, Mary of Willliamsburg; and sister, Pauline Icenbice of Deep River; and a host of nieces, nephews and other family members. Doris was preceded in death by her parents, and siblings, Mabel Cochran, Rene Schwer, Mary Cogswell, Hazel Kron, Marvel Greiner, Josephine Elick, and Verna Myron. A heartfelt thank you to everyone at Legacy Point for their loving care and compassion extended to Doris during her stay with the Legacy family.
