Obituary of Virginia Watts Hippee
Virginia Watts Hippee, age 89, of Iowa City died Friday, September 14, 2007, at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Family Services will be held in Audubon, Iowa. A time for family and friends to gather to remember Virginias life will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in her memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Virginia Watts Hippee was born April 1, 1918, in Plover, Iowa the daughter of Charles E. and Ellowene P. Watts. Following graduation as Valedictorian of her class in Pocahontas, Iowa she went on to receive her degree in French from Drake University. On January 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to Charles Louis Hippee in Chevy Chase, MD. She has been employed in a number of different positions during her lifetime. She worked for Union Oil Company in Los Angeles, Iowa State University, and for Senator A. J. Shaw in Des Moines, before she and her family moved to Iowa City to establish the Hippee Oil Company in 1967. Throughout her life she enjoyed many interests and passions. She was an accomplished seamstress, an avid bridge player, loved gardening, and traveled extensively. She enjoyed her bridge clubs and her book club. But her deepest love was for her family, and they for her. Her family includes her daughter, Barbara Hill of Broomfield, CO; her son and his wife, Chuck and Connie Hippee of Iowa City; grandchildren, Jen Malm and her husband, Andrew of Broomfield, CO; Alaine, Anna, and Cami Hippee of Iowa City. Her parents, and her husband, Charles, preceded Virginia in death. Virginias family wishes to extend special thanks to Dr. Ann Broderick for her compassionate care and counsel. The family is especially grateful to the staff at the Solon Nursing Care Center, and thankful to many others for their assistance.
