Obituary of Phyllis L. Brockmeyer

Phyllis L. Brockmeyer, 77, of Oelwein, died Thursday, September 20, 2007, at The University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City following a long illness. Phyllis Lorrainne Brockmeyer, born October 3, 1929, in Oelwein, Iowa was the daughter of William and Mabel (Lander) Stone. She attended Oelwein High School, graduating in 1946. Phyllis was united in marriage to Leroy Gene Brockmeyer on May 11, 1948. As a lifelong resident of Oelwein she was a member of the Zion Lutheran church, and when her children were growing up she was very active in the PTA. She was gifted with many talents, as an artist, musician and caregiver; many have benefited from her gifts. Her family includes her children, Robert Steil of Brighton, Colorado: Lynn Ryan and her husband, Tom of Waukon: Laura Martin and her husband Michael of Neola; Steven Brockmeyer of Oelwein; Anne Barker and her husband, Mike, of Oelwein; and Roy Brockmeyer and his wife, Connie of Oelwein; grandchildren, Tina, Preston, Lisa, Leanne, Matthew, Chad, Eric, Mike and Laura; thirteen great-grandchildren; brother, Bill Stone and his wife Ann of Oelwein; and her sister, Beverly Thomas of Cedar Rapids. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband; two grandchildren, Michael and Damien; and sister, Verna Monnahan. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Phyllis’s family and her services.
