Obituary of William C. Halstead, Sr.

William C. Halstead Sr., 74 of North Liberty died Sunday, October 7, 2007, at the Greenwood Manor Care Center in Iowa City following complications from a stroke. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial with military honors at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in Bill’s memory. During the Korean Conflict Bill served in the United States Army. Following a previous marriage he married Helen M. Spanier on August 14, 1965 in Rock Island, IL. For many years he worked for the City of Iowa City in the sanitation department. His family includes his wife, Helen; children, William Halstead Jr. (Bobbi) of North Liberty, Sandy Cole (Dick) of Iowa City, Patty Augustine (Clayton) of Kyle, TX, Becky Miller (Jim) of Oklahoma City, OK, Marcia Carlson (Keith Stanfield) of North Liberty, Howard Lewis (Pat) of Iowa City, Mike Lewis (Mary) of Iowa City, Ricky Lewis of Oklahoma City, OK, and Connie Mason (Regis) of Grantsville, MD; children from his previous marriage, Mike Maske (Darla), Bill Maske, Crystal Maske and Teresa Fischer; many grandchildren; Bill’s siblings, Raymond Halstead, Ronald Halstead, Robert Halstead, Ruth Glick, Mary Linnell, Edith Blanton, Margaret McAtte, Rosella Vineyard, and Viola Filip. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a granddaughter, Destini Halstead.
