Donald D. "Don" Urban
1942 - 2014
Condolences
I worked with Don at John Deere Waterloo Works. Don & I went on a number of company supplier visits during those years. I'll always remember Don as a fun loving, nature loving guy, that took fishing seriously and his job seriously as well. Tough but fair, he knew his craft and always worked together with suppliers with a cooperative, 'can do' attitude. His baked Northern is renowned and if you've ever been lucky enough to have it, you know what I mean. Sorry we didn't get to spend much time together after retirement. Rest in piece friend.
Dearest Jeanne & family, I was deeply saddened to hear of Don's passing. Although I am miles away I am there with you in spirit & sending you my heartfelt sympathy. I pray that you be surrounded by peace & feel the love & light of our Lord in your time of sorrow. My memories of Don will always be cherished as I admired him for his integrity, kindness, sense of humor & deep love for you Jeanne. May he rest in peace in the arms of our Lord & be waiting to greet you all in our eternal home. Sending you love and light, Lilly
Jeanne and Urban family: I would like to extend my deepest condolences on the passing of Don. Don was my supervisor at John Deere in supplier quality in the late 90's and I learned a lot from him about supplier quality and about life. He was professional, engaging and focused and he had a great ability to work with others to bring a successful result. After Don's retirement, I connected with him on several supplier quality projects for Deere, knowing he would bring the most impactful improvements to those situations. You are in my family's thoughts and prayers.
Don and I go back 60 years. He was my fathers favorite caddy. After golf, back then, Don and I would go hunting gophers on the golf course until dark. I used a pellet gun and Don used his bow, he rarely missed. After high school I didn't see Don again until my first day of work at John Deere. He walked up to me and I said "Duck, what are you doing here?" He laugh because no one there knew him as "Duck". He And I spent 23 years working, playing and fishing together until I retired. It was a joy. Once he moved to Iowa City I didn't get to see him as often as I would have liked. He was a wealth of knowledge in many areas. Probably the best fisherman I have ever known. I have so many wonderful memories of Don, both hilarious and serious. I'm going to miss you, Brother
I remember the pheasant hunts and the Bennet, Basie, Hacket Concert in Chicago. My condolences to Duck's family. He was a great friend.
To Don's family,
We all go back to the 60's and Mama Nick's Circle Pizzeria on East 4th Street.
Back then we all called him "Duck." He was going to college and working at Deere's.
Our Father, Emmanuel, and Pete Urban, Don's dad, were good friends and went hunting and fishing together, so our families to go back to the 30's.
Duck and George Nicholas, owner of the Mama Nick's, were good friends and they hunted and fished together whenever they had a chance.
Don (Duck) was a great man and friend and we are shocked to learn of his passing. Even though we hadn't seen Don for several years, he will be missed and he will always be in our hearts.
Our heartfelt condolences to his brother and sister, Gary and Linda, as well as his family in Iowa City.
He will be thought of and missed.
All of us at Mama Nick's remember "Duck" with fond memories that will always be with us.
I was sad to hear of Don's passing. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to the family. I worked with Don at John Deere when he returned to work in Supplier Quality after retirement in the late-2000s. He was a wealth of knowledge and had a unique ability to improve a supplier's performance while building a stronger relationship with each of them. Most of all, he was a gentleman and a pleasure to see in the office during his bi-weekly visits to Waterloo. He will be missed by all.
My sincere condolences to Don's survivors. Don made an impact on those around him, whether at work or play. As his obituary states, Don was many things to many people. He knew a lot about a lot of things, and was more than willing to share that knowledge. He will be missed! Greatly missed. May he rest in eternal peace.
Sending my prayers and condolences to Don's family for their loss. I was saddened to hear Don had passed away. I remember Don from working in Supply Management at John Deere. I loved his huge smile and he always had such wonderful energy! He was never without a great story and it was always a joy to talk to him. I learned something from him in every conversation. He was larger than life and will be missed. My thoughts are with you during this sad time.
Jeanne - I learned of Don's death at a breakfast gathering of Deere Retires. I was shocked and saddened at the news. Don and I worked together at Deere for many years. He was very knowledgeable and very professional about his work
Enjoy the fishing, Don!
I worked with Don for many years, starting way back in Dept 24 through
his years in reliability/purchasing. Also had the fortune of fishing with him.
Don was always a professional and a gentleman at everything he did.
He will be missed.
So sorry to hear of don's passing. He was a super boss to work for, a great mentor and supporter. He was quite the connoisseur and cooked some mean walleye. Loved fishing, hunting, playing golf. Still miss the oysters the last day of work before the Christmas shutdown, the email communications when on the road in Europe, the Quality Engineering golf outings that he coordinated. He formed a great Quality team and set the standard for Quality engineering at the John Deere operations. He taught me so many things. I will miss Don.
Dear Jeanne, Linda and families,
Jeanie and family...
We are deeply saddened by the passing of Don. The memories of him will be with us forever.
We are thankful to have been able to live so close by in Muscatine for those few years and share so many of our "firsts"- first house, first baby, JoJo's first birthday, graduation... the list goes on. We think back so fondly to our conversations about, fishing, Iowa, cooking, and "work".
Thank you Don for all of the memories. We are so grateful for our time with you.
