Obituary of Myrle D. Fairchild

Myrle D. Fairchild, 89, of Iowa City died Thursday, November 8, 2007, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Cremation services were provided through Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Myrle D. Fairchild was born November 30, 1917, in Waterville, Kansas the son of David W. and Esther M. (Hansen) Fairchild. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. On March 19, 1939, he was united in marriage to C. Darlene Kennicott in Russell, KS. For many years Myrle worked as a regional Vice-President for Pamida, based in Omaha, Nebraska. The couple lived in Omaha for many years before moving to Iowa City in 2004 to be near their family. His family includes his wife, Darlene; daughter, Randy McClanahan of Iowa City; two granddaughters, Jesse McClanahan-Ruhinda and her husband Eria of Iowa City and Keri Ann Givens and her husband, Joel of St. Louis, MO; two great-granddaughters, Abbott and Bennett McClanahan-Ruhinda; and daughter-in-law, Lois Fairchild o Jefferson City, MO. He was preceded in death by his parents, son, Ric Fairchild; and two brothers. Myrle’s family would like to extend their deepest appreciation for the loving care shown by the staff at Melrose Meadows, Dr. Michael Burns, the staff of Mercy Hospital and Iowa City Hospice.
