Obituary of Ann Ewers Erickson

Ann Ewers Erickson, 79, formerly of 86 Olive Ct., Iowa City, died November 28, 2007 at Windmill Manor in Coralville after a long illness. Friends and relatives are invited to spend some time visiting with the family remembering Ann at the University Athletic Club from 2:00 to 4:00 on Sunday, December 2nd. Ann was born on March 20, 1928 in Iowa City, Iowa to Glenn and Margaret Hyatt Ewers. Ann was a lifelong resident of Iowa City and she was a 1946 graduate of University High School and a 1950 graduate of the University of Iowa. She had strong ties to the University of Iowa as her grandfather, parents, husband, two children, and a granddaughter also have degrees from the University of Iowa. Ann was particularly proud of the affiliation she, her mother, and a daughter had with the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Ann married E. Dale Erickson on June 20, 1949 and they enjoyed 45 years of marriage prior to Dale’s death in 1994. Dale succeeded Ann’s father in owning and operating Ewers Footwear which was located at 107 South Clinton Street for several decades until 1972. After raising three children, Ann took a job with the United States Census Bureau and worked diligently at that job for 25 years. Ann enjoyed playing bridge, sewing, watching the Hawkeyes, and spending time with her family. Ann is survived by three children and their spouses – Sally Orr (Chuck) of Coralville, Bill Erickson (Regina) of Mt. Pleasant, and Suzy Dircks (Barry) of Solon. She is also survived by five grandchildren, a grandson-in-law and a great grandchild – Jennifer (Orr) and Bob Struthers, Lauren Erickson, Melissa Erickson, Brian Erickson, Kelsey Dircks, and Maddie Struthers. Ann was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Tom; and her husband Dale. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the University of Iowa Foundation or Amenity Hospice in Ann’s memory.
