Obituary of Daniel J. Buckley, Jr.

Daniel J. Buckley Jr., 89 formerly of North Liberty, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, at Living Center East in Cedar Rapids. A gathering time for family and friends will be held from 4 to 6pm Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. As to Daniel’s wishes, cremation services were provided through the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in his memory. Daniel Joseph Buckley Jr. was born December 11, 1918, in Somerville, MA, the son of Daniel Joseph Buckley Sr. and Ellen Kenney Buckley. Following graduation from high school in Malden, MA he received his BA degree in Science from North East University in Boston, and later his Masters Degree in Business Administration from the University of Buffalo, Buffalo, NY. On June 21, 1942, he married Elizabeth “Betty” Weaver in Malden, MA. The couple has lived in Swansea, MA, and Hudson, FL before moving to North Liberty in 2002 to be close to family. For over twenty years he worked as an electrical engineer for General Electric Corporation, and later for the United States Navy retiring in 1980. While he was working he was a member of a number of professional associations, and since moving to this area was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Solon. His family includes his wife, Betty, presently living at Garnett Place in Cedar Rapids; four sons, Daniel J. Buckley III of Colfax, CA, Michael F. Buckley and his wife, Dayle of Fall Rivers, MA, Stephen W. Buckley and his wife, Debra of South Dartmouth, MA, and Patrick W. Buckley and his wife, Julie of Solon; nine grandchildren, Amie, Tina, Jennifer, Bryan, Kara, Christopher, Megan, Bridget, and Scott. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Iowa City is caring for Daniel’s family and his services.
