Obituary of Dorothy E. Frese

Dorothy E. Frese, 99 formerly of Oxford, died Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at the Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 29, 2007, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford with the Reverend Thomas Doyle officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Friday at the church. Memorial donations can be made in Dorothy’s memory to Oxford First Responders or St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford. Falls Frese was born April 7, 1908, in Tiffin, Iowa the daughter of James Henry Falls and Elizabeth Walker Falls. She married Martin B. Frese August 20, 1925, in Oxford. She was a lifelong member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Oxford, member of the Catholic Order of Foresters, Mercy Hospital Guild, Naim Club, and several bridge clubs in Iowa City. For many years she retained the honor as the volunteer with the most hours of service at Mercy Hospital, one which she was most proud of! Her family includes her daughter, Virginia Scheetz of Oxford; four grandchildren, Mary Sue Jiras (James), Bonnie Jiras (Raymond), and Thomas Scheetz (Lynette) all of Oxford, and Steve Scheetz (Karen) of Riverside; 10 great-grandchildren, Jennifer Jiras Wood (Bill), Steven Jiras (Sherry), Cherri Jiras Block (Bradley), Marty Jiras (Lisa), Clint Jiras, Jeret Jiras (Dana), Stephanie Scheetz Kuennen (Tom), Angie Scheetz Kesselring (Scott), Matthew Scheetz, and David Scheetz; 3 step-great-grandchildren, Brent Hawkins, Jesi Hawkins, and Kati Hawkins; 18 great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Luella Rose of Cedar Rapids, brother-in-law, Frank Frese of Hiawatha; and several nieces and nephews. Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Martin; son-in-law, Laurence Scheetz; sisters, Helen Bontrager and Katy Falls; brothers, Burt Falls, James Falls Jr. and Clem Falls; and brothers-in-law, Ted Frese and Ivan Frese. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford and Iowa City is caring for Dorothy’s family and her services.
