Obituary of Velva Mae Wilkinson

Velva Mae Wilkinson, 81 of 314 Buckeye Road, West Liberty, died Sunday, January 27, 2008 at Mercy Hospital of Iowa City due to an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 1pm Thursday, January 31, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service, Iowa City, with Reverend Brian McNamara officiating. Burial will at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 11am until services at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Velva’s name. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Velva Mae Wilkinson was born August 5, 1926, in Morrison, Illinois the daughter of George and Iva (Ballard) Birely. On May 13, 1950, she married Donald Wilkinson in Sterling, Illinois. They moved to West Liberty in 1962. Her family includes three sons, Don Remour and his wife, Jean of Swisher, Ralph Remour of West Liberty and Stan Wilkinson and his wife, Janice of Hills; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; brother, Warren Birely and his wife, Sue of Iowa City; sisters, Dorothy Olson of Campbell Hill, Illinois, Ellamae Burkett of Green Forest, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald, grandson, Jeffery, and two sisters. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Velva’s family and her services.
