Obituary of Robert L. Gaskill
Robert L. Bob Gaskill, 75, of 11 Arbury Drive, Iowa City, Iowa died at his home Friday, March 7, 2008. A gathering of family and friends will be held Monday, March 10, 2008, from 4-7 p.m. at the Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Graveside services will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, at the Oakland Cemetery with military honors. Donations may be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association in support of ALS research and the Iowa City Hospice. Online condolences may be sent to Bobs family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Robert Lee Gaskill was born in Audubon County, Iowa July 24, 1932, to Oscar and Margaret (Anderson) Gaskill. He grew up on the Gaskill family farm and attended school in Irwin, Iowa, until he served in the Army from 1953-1955. On October 19, 1956, he was united in marriage to Katharine Kay McMahon in Iowa City, Iowa. For the past 50 years he owned and operated Gaskill Signs, Inc. Roberts family includes his wife, Kay of Iowa City, their three daughters, Kimberly of Burnsville, Minnesota, Tammie of Metairie, Louisiana, and Amy of Iowa City, two very special granddaughters Kaydee (Dee) and Shelby Vraspier and their father Greg of Iowa City. Extended family includes Opal Gaskill, June and Walt Murray, Richard McMahon of Irwin, Iowa, Jim and Verlee McMahon of Waterloo, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and six brothers and sisters. The family wishes to thank the Iowa City medial community (Veterans Administration Hospital, Mercy Hospital, the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Muscular Dystrophy Association and Iowa City Hospice for their support).
