She graduated from Streator High School and went on to earn her degree in nursing (R.N.) from the Presbyterian Hospital in Chicago. After she married Madison Kuhn on August 28, 1937, they moved to East Lansing, MI, where her husband was a professor of history at Michigan State University for over 40 years. Ruth was active in many organizations, was a charter member of Eastminster Presbyterian church in East Lansing, loved to read, and was an enthusiastic tent-camper and traveler. She and her husband traveled extensively, planning and making a round-the-world trip on their own. On her husband's retirement they moved to Santa Barbara, CA, and after Madison's death in 1985, Ruth continued to enjoy living in Santa Barbara. In 1990 Ruth moved to Iowa City, living at Windmill Pointe and, for the past 9 years, at Oaknoll Health Center. Here she has been a member of St. Andrew Presbyterian Church for the past 18 years. Ruth's family includes her daughter, Rosemary, and son-in-law, Bryce Plapp of Iowa City; grandchildren Brendan (Julie Bentz) Plapp and Laurel Plapp, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents and her 6 sisters and brothers. The family wishes to thank the wonderful care-givers of Oaknoll, who were truly friends to Ruth during the last years of her life.
