Obituary of Agnes P. Maier

Agnes P. Maier, 100 formerly of 4560 Maier Avenue, SW, Iowa City died Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Hills Atrium Village. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Iowa City. Burial at St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Monday at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service. Memorial donations can be made in her memory to Hills Atrium Village or the American Cancer Society. Kasper Maier was born February 10, 1908, in Newport Township of Johnson County, Iowa the daughter of Henry and Anna Kasper. She married William A. Maier on April 15, 1931, in Iowa City. The couple farmed in Johnson County all their married lives, William died February 24, 1978. Agnes continued to live on the farm until 2002 when she moved to Atrium Village in Hills. Agnes was a member of St. Marys Catholic Church in Iowa City, the Union Township Ladies group and Jonco-Jills. Agnes always enjoyed playing cards, doing puzzles, and especially a good game of Yatzee to those who dared to take her on! On the farm she cared for her garden, chickens and of course her ducks. Her family includes two sons and their wives, John and Janice Maier and Donald and Virginia Maier all of Iowa City; 13 grandchildren, and 20 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Anna Marie Kral; son-in-law, Donald Kral; great-granddaughter, Tiffany Ann; six brothers and one sister.
