Obituary of Gwendolyn E. Floyd

Gwendolyn E. Floyd, 89 formerly of 1809 Rochester Court, Iowa City died Thursday, March 20, 2008, at the Iowa City Rehabilitation & Health Care Center. Memorial services will be held at 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 2, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with the Reverend Paul Akin officiating. Gwendolyn Elsie Rummells Floyd was born May 2, 1918, in Iowa City the daughter of Harolde and Elsie (Pratt) Rummells. Following graduation from Iowa City City High School she received a degree in Graphic Arts from The University of Iowa. For a number of years prior to her marriage she as employed by Economy Advertising of Iowa City. She was united in marriage to Dean C. Floyd on September 8, 1940, in Iowa City. The couple lived in Cedar Rapids for a number of years where Dean was associated with Collins Radio. They returned to Iowa City in 1967. Gwen was an accomplished seamstress and tailor, doing work for others out of her home, while also working for The Fabric Shop. She was a longtime active member of the First United Methodist Church of Iowa City. Her family includes her daughter, Deborah Floyd of Iowa City; family friend, Todd Peterson of North Liberty; her many extended family members at Iowa City Rehab & Health Care, and special feline friend, Stubby. Gwen was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Dean; and a brother, Khairom.
