Obituary of Rosemary Oldis

Rosemary “Rosie” Oldis 77, formerly of 306 Virginia Drive, Iowa City died Monday, April 07, 2008 at Parkview Manor in Wellman due to an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with Reverend Walter Helms officiating. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Cemetery in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7pm Wednesday at the funeral home. Rosie was born February 15, 1931, in Dubuque, Iowa the daughter of William and Betty (Tamlin) White. After graduating from the Dubuque Academy of the Visitation Catholic High School in 1949, she attended The University of Iowa. She was united in marriage to Robert C. “Bob” Oldis on February 16, 1952, in Dubuque. Rosie and Bob lived and raised their family in Iowa City. While Bob was in professional baseball, they still called Iowa City their home during the off season. She was an avid Hawkeye fan and was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church. Her family includes her husband, “Bob”; daughter, Susan M. (George III) Mellicker of Owasso, Okalahoma; two grandchildren, Brenna and Shannon Mellicker; sisters, Joan (Jim) McMahon and Carol (Joe) Hannam all of Dubuque; brothers, William (Jeanie) White of Eldridge, Iowa and James White of Iowa City; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two sons, John and Robert Oldis, an infant son, William; and sister, Betty Ann Kessler.
