Obituary of Gelaine I. Detweiler

Gelaine I. Detweiler, 73, of Iowa City, died at Mercy Hospital, Saturday, May 10, 2008 surrounded by family, following a long illness. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 14, 2008 at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be made in Gelaine’s name to the Iowa City Animal Shelter. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Gelaine Detweiler was born August 26, 1934, in Yarmouth, Iowa, the daughter of Raymond and Celia (Newman) Patterson. She grew up in Washington, Iowa and attended Washington High School. She married Ron Detweiler on October 22, 1956 in Hamilton, Missouri. Ron and Gelaine enjoyed the winters they spent in Florida and Arizona, visiting with friends from around the country, playing cards and spending time with their family. Gelaine’s family includes her husband Ron; children Lori Lacina of Iowa City and her stepchildren, Brian and Shawn Lacina & children Ben and Emily of Sarasota, FL; Brenda and Todd Kurtz & children Tyler and Micaila of Iowa City, and Shelly and Wes Prybil their children Josh and Allison of Solon; Randy Detweiler and wife Mary Jo their children, Lauren and Meghan, of Pittsburgh, PA and Bill Detweiler and wife Lisa their son Matt of Ames, Iowa. Her family also includes her sister, Dolores Chalupa of Burlington, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, and son-in-law Duane Lacina.
