She graduated from Tiffin High School in 1952 and then joined the U.S. Navy. Mary met Al Wyborny, her husband, in San Diego, CA. While working as a bank teller in San Diego, Mary was very actively involved with her children, serving as Girl Scout Leader, member of the PTA, yard duty teacher, treasurer of Little League, Manager of Bobby Sox Softball, and much more. After moving to Maryland in 1971, Mary worked as a real estate agent. In 1973, Mary and Al returned to Iowa to purchase and operate Oxford Hardware. Later, they added Colony Maytag. Mary "never met a stranger." Her loved ones remember her sense of humor, deep curiosity about the world and people, clever solutions to problems, and passion for travel. She was always on the move. Mary and Al traveled all over the United States in their motor home visiting friends and family, making new friends, and seeing the variety and beauty of our country. Mary's family includes her husband, Al; one son, two daughters, and their partners: Rick Barker and Karla Gannon of Nashville, TN, Nikki and Bruce Carroll of Cordova, TN, and Lecia Barker and William Aspray of Boulder, CO; seven grandchildren, Sarah Stout (and husband Craig Stout), Amber Ogle (and husband John Ed Ogle), Austin Carroll, Luke Braun, Zak Archer, Harrison Archer, and Taylor Carroll; two great- grandchildren, Ryan and Sophie Stout; a stepmother, Lila Flansburg; two brothers and a sister, James Flansburg and his wife Carol, of Des Moines, and Gary Flansburg and his wife Linda of Iowa City; and Jill Flansburg and her partner John Mccullough; her aunt Laverne Flansburg; and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Mary was preceded in death by her mother and father. Special thanks to Dr. Scott Eberly, always accessible, understanding, and a good listener, and Nurse Angie Notebaert. Thank you also to Iowa City Hospice. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service is caring for Mary’s family and her services.
