Obituary of Edward Milton Buettner
Edward Milton Buettner 82, of Iowa City died Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Solon Nursing Care Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, June 4, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. Wednesday until services. Following services there will be a reception for family and friends at the funeral home prior to going to Memory Gardens Cemetery for burial where military honors will be presented. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made in his memory to the Solon Nursing Care Center. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Ed was born October 15, 1925, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Henry and Alice Buettner. He attended Bowling Green University and Cornell University. During WWII he served as an Ensign in the United States Navy for over 3 years before his honorable discharge. Following his military service he was united in marriage to Eleanor Bondeson on October 8, 1948, in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ed and Eleanor celebrated forty-five years of marriage before her death on September 13, 1993. For over 35 years Ed worked for Williams Pipeline retiring in 1981, as District Superintendent. Ed's family includes his children, Lee Buettner (wife, Carol) and Steve Buettner of Coralville; Anne Buettner (husband, Dean Brock) of LaCanada, CA, and Nancy Whetstine (husband, Ron) of North Liberty; nine grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, John Buettner of Bloomington, MN; and sisters, Mary Alice Hoover of Pine River, MN, Katie Rouse, Nancy O'Donnell and Esther Pavlicek all of Bloomington, MN. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor Buettner, daughter, Julie Hockom; and brother, Donald Buettner. Ed's family would like to thank all the staff members of Solon Nursing Care Center for the warm and caring home provided during the last year and a half of Ed's life.
