Condolences
Dear Harriett, Mary Anne, Margaret, David, Mr. Hong, Children, Grandchildren, Friends and Family: I was deeply saddend to hear of Janet's passing. Many years ago, I briefly lived with her and she showed me every kindness as I dated her brother,Randy, for sometime. She tolerated teenage angst, and showed great patience. I can see she was greatly accomplished and had a rich life. I know she will be missed by many and her life celebrated in many ways. Very Sincerely, Brenda
Dear Harriett, Margaret (Gus), and family My heart goes out to you at this time of such great sadness.
Harriet and family, In reading the obits in the Fairfield Ledger one of my classmates seen Janet s and sent out an email wondering if Janet was related to Dave in our class of 62 at FF. Of course I recognized Janet s name and it brought back memories of when Jim, you, Randy and Janet lived by my parents Floyd and Grace Best. Please accept my thoughts and prayers for you in your time of Loss. I know what it is to have lost a child and it is one of the hardest things in life and now you have lost two. It reads as though Janet enjoyed life to the fullest that is great.
I had a crush on Janet in 3rd grade. Instead of ever establishing a boy friend - girl friend relationship, we became good friends and spent many a recess talking about all the things 3rd graders talk about and more. We were part of a little clique in those days comprised of Margie Vorheise, Joe Feldman and John Gabbert, Mike Courtney, Dudley Brown, Dick Nelson and others. These were friendships that may have not been refreshed frequently enough, but I'm sure still remain warm and intact over these past 55 years.
Janet's family has been touched with sorrow several times in the past. With each loss my family has been deeply affected with sorrow, as well. This sad news is no exception. I mourn her loss and hope her Mom and family take some comfort in the fact that Janet touched the lives of many who will feel a great loss at her passing and retain many happy memories of her.
What a wonderful woman. She will be well remembered by her family and friends.
We originally met Janet in 1993. She represented us in a few different personal matters and over time, became a good friend to chat up when it came to her long walks, her interest in health advancements, our honey products that we sell at farmers markets and the benefits that honeybees provide, her grandchildren and her passion for forging trails in law and her practice. She was an endearing person! We admired her for her tenacity and the fact that she didn't back down from what she believed in. We were very saddened to hear of her passing and we wish Derek and her family strength thru the tough days and smiles thru the memories.
Dear Derek and family,
Any dance was always more fun when Janet and Derek were there!
Her energy, enthusiasm, kindness, and lively spirit will continue to be an inspiration. We will miss her.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Derek and Janet's family.

Derek, I was shocked and saddened to hear of your lovely wife's passing. My thoughts will be with you and your family in the days to come.
Lurea and I have known Janet for over 40 years. We were neighbors for a time in the 70's, have several kids of the same age, and relish great stories of family and friendship. There was a period of time we did loose touch, but fortunately rekindled our friendship a few years ago and have had the pleasure of getting to know and love Derek. Our hearts go out to Derek and the kids. Janet was one of the special people you meet during your life that just "makes you feel good". There will be a void that can't be filled. Life is not fair and Janet should not be gone, but they tell us life will go on. And it will, but without one of life's great creations.
We were so saddened when we read Monday's paper. We knew you both from meeting on the dance floor. Keeping you and your family close in our hearts during this difficult time.
Derek & family,
Derek and Family,
There is no way that words can express how deeply sorry I am for your loss. Over the years, it was always so nice to see both of you at the dancesso much funso much talent. All I can say, as words fall short of expressing the sorrow I am feeling, is that I have such fond memories of you as a couple and especially Janet' great smile, warm personality, sense of humor and sharp intelligent wit. She is a great loss to the dance community. May God's grace give you, and your family, grace and strength during this most difficult time,
Thinking of you with the deepest sympathy,
William Kay

Oh Derek & Emily, I am so sorry you all have had to experience this sickness and death of someone so special.
What a horrible loss to the world. Janet was a fun soul and I will always remember her walking into rooms with Derek and the room would instantly brighten with their joyful energy. I can remember years ago when they would come out dancing and light the floor up with their swing moves, laughter and smiles.
God bless and may all those in Heaven appreciate what we are now missing here in this world.

Dear Hong Family: So sorry to hear about Janet's passing. She handled some legal issues for me and was always so considerate and kind. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. God Bless.
I did not know Janet but do know she made a lasting impression on my daughter, Mary. For that reason I will join her in mourning her passing and cherishing her memory.
So many great memories with Janet! Coffee and great conversation in each others gardens. Dinner with Janet and Derek, and spending time at dances together were special times. Janet and Derek will always be the King and Queen of Swing dancing. It was a treat to sit back and watch them do their swing magic toghether.
Most of all Janet was a very giving person and always talked highly about anyone she knew. Her family, friends and especially Derek. Never was a bad word spoken about anyone. She never said anything negative while battling with cancer or said this stinks, but always wanted to know about how you were and how was your family. I will always admire that about Janet and hope to be a better person from her great example and perseverance. She took each day and lived to the fullest and enjoyed each moment. I feel very blessed to have had each moment with Janet, and will hold on to all the special memories. Special love and hugs go to the family, and thanks Randall for letting me have a few of her last moments to enjoy our last coffee and scones together.
So sad to hear of Jane't passing. Such a beautiful soul & a lovely lady. We met Janet & Derek through our mutual love of dancing. They could swing so beautifully together on the dance floor, as they did through their life together. Janet fought a good fight, but God had other plans for her. Derek & family, please accept our condolences & deepest sympathy for all of you. We will miss you, Janet, we only hope you are at peace now.
Derek, I am very sorry for your loss. It was always wonderful to see you and Janet on the dance floor. My sincere sympathies go to you and your family.
Janet was a great lawyer and a wonderful person. She will be missed.
Derek, please accept my condolences. I always respected Janet even when we disagreed. She was a great Lawyer and a compassionate advocate for her clients. Janet is in a better place now and her spirit lives on in you and others. Take care.
I am sorry for your loss. Janet was pleasant person to know and work with.
Derek and family: You have my most sincere condolences on Janet's passing. I admire her so, and she still influences my own practice. She had skill, strength and grace, with a huge heart to match her great intellect.
I had the incredible pleasure of working in the office that houses the Hongs' Coralville practice, and, whenever she walked into the office, I knew a smile would greet me. She's one of the sweetest people I've ever met, and the universe will be a colder place without her warm smile and generous soul. My heart absolutely breaks for Derek, her family, and for everyone who knew her. She will be missed desperately!
We are saddened to learn of Janet's death. We offer our condolences to Derek and family. Dawn and I have fond memories with Janet and Derek on multiple dancing occasions. They have always been very gracious, and excellent ambassadors of ballroom dancing. We miss Janet's charm and warm personality. Mike and Dawn.
My parents have known Janet and Derek for many years. I can remember when I would attend some Congenial Hundred dances with my parents and would watch Janet and Derek dance together. It was magical. Watching them dance together made you just want to get up and join in. Janet had a beautiful and vibrant soul. She will be missed by our family.
We will miss everything about Janet - beautiful inside and outside and gracious to everyone. She will be missed by everyone who ever met her. Our deepest condolences to Derek and all her children and grandchildren.
We are shocked and saddened to hear about Janet. She was so full of life and joy, always with that huge smile. We send our love to her wonderful family.
