Obituary of Charlene K. Ickes

Charlene K. Ickes, 86 of Iowa City died Monday, June 23, 2008, at Greenwood Manor Care Center in Iowa City. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, June 27, 2008, at Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service in Iowa City, with burial at Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to the services. A memorial fund has been established in Charlene’s memory. Online condolences may be sent for her family through the web @ www.gayandciha.com. Charlene K. Kintz Ickes was born March 6, 1922, in Harlan, Iowa the daughter of Joseph and Lucille (Metcalf) Kintz. She was a graduate of West Branch High School. In 1946 she married Russell Ickes in Hiawatha, KS. The couple for many years owned and operated the Harmony Inn in Persia, Iowa. Following Russell’s death she moved to Iowa City in 1981. Here she was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary. She has always loved children, her nephews, great nieces and great-nephews were very important part of her life. She and her great-niece, Tanya shared many good times together, Charlene so enjoyed her family. Her family includes her nephews, Stephen and Bonnie Hogan of Hesston, KS, and Russell and Lisa Hogan of Iowa City; 13 great-nieces and nephews, Mike, Tami, Kathy, Sean, Gabriel, Lyndsey, Merideth, Tiffany, Jeremiah, Sara, Tanya, Tylor and Samuel; and numerous great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Russell, sister, Marilyn Herdlicka; and nephew, Robert Joe Hogan.
