Obituary of Joseph Wagner

Joseph Leonard Wagner 83, of 2 Remote St., Iowa City died peacefully Sunday, June 29, 2008 at his home surrounded by family. A memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Iowa City. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at the church. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Joseph's name. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Joe was born March 23, 1925 in Stacyville, Iowa the son of Valentine and Mary (Schnider) Wagner. On August 29, 1945 he married Ethel Marie Oeltjenbruns in Osage, Iowa. They moved to Iowa City in 1960 where Joe began to work for John Dane where he was a Herdsman milking cows for 26 years. After retirement Joe and Ethel moved to Elma, Iowa where they lived for 15 years, following Elma they moved back to Iowa City to be close to family and friends. Joe was a member of St. Patrick Church. He enjoyed bowling at Coral Lanes, and loved all the fishing trips he took with his family. His family includes wife Ethel of Iowa City; children Shirley Mayfield of Iowa City, Bill Wagner (Muriel) of Iowa City, Nancy (Jose) Mendoza of Iowa City, Mick Wagner of Albany, Kansas, Mary Ann Davis (Doug) of Riverside, Richard Wagner (Janet) of Casselberry, FL, Joann Klein (Michael) of Waterville, IA, Sharon Gilkerson (Scott) of Panama City Beach, FL.; grandchildren Kim Evans (Craig), Kelly Ward fiancé Bill, Terri Lynn Stecklein (Scott), Laura Wagner, Michelle Lord (Bryan), Nathan, Nash Wagner, David Wagner (Cristina), Scott Wagner, and Joe, Justin, Nicholas Gilkerson; 8 great-grandchildren; and sister Rose Rawson of Yuma, Arizona. Joe was preceeded in death by his parents; brother Wilford Wagner; and sister Alice Intorf.
