Obituary of Leona Lorraine Cochran
Leona L. Cochran, 86 formerly of Coralville and Oxford, died Monday, June 30, 2008, at the Colonial Manor Care Center in Amana. Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Thursday, July 3, 2008, at the Coralville United Methodist Church with the Reverend Doug Williams officiating. Burial will be at the Oxford Cemetery. Following the burial everyone is welcome to join the family for a reception at the Oxford United Methodist Church, Oxford. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. to 7pm today (Wednesday) at the Oxford Chapel of Gay & Ciha Funeral Home. A memorial fund has been established in her memory. Leona Lorraine Schropp was born October 10, 1921, on Dutch Lake, near Amana the first daughter and second child of Alice and Earnie Schropp. She was united in marriage to John Morelock Cochran on August 14, 1940, in Oxford at the First Federation Church. After several years of farming the couple settled in Coralville. Here they were active in the community, being one of the charter members of Coralville United Methodist Church. In 1965 John and Leona moved to Oxford, where they were active raising and showing registered quarter horses around the Midwest. For over 20 years Leona worked for Amana Refrigeration, retiring in 1990. Her family includes her children, Larry Cochran (Gail) of Oxford, John Cochran (Carol) of Iowa City, Danny Cochran (Mary) of Ankeny, and Rebecca Umland (Sam) of Kearney, NE; 7 grandchildren, Kim Greene (Brian), Jeff Cochran (Chris), Lisa Feinberg (Phil), Scott Cochran (Cathy), Julie Applebaum (Matt), Jason Cochran (Holly), and John Umland; 9 great-grandchildren, Tanner and Shelby Cochran, Arron Feinberg, Kyle Baker, Nolan, Satchel, and Jack Cochran, Jessica and Daniel Applebaum; brothers and sisters, Walter Schropp (Hazel) of Shueyville, Goldie Royston (Jack) of Iowa City, Marie Olson (Roy) of Oxford, Delores Michelsen of Tiffin, and Deanna Macri (Joe) of Tiffin. Leona was preceded in death by her parents, husband, John (12/11/1985), granddaughter, Paula Cochran; sister, Alice Nash, and brother, Roger Schropp. Gay & Ciha Funeral and Cremation Service of Oxford and Iowa City is caring for Leonas family and her services.
