Obituary of Leonard F. Tomash

Leonard F. Tomash, 88, of Amana died Wednesday, July 23, 2008, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 10:30am Saturday, July 26, 2008, at St. Mary's Auditorium in Oxford with burial at the Oxford Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8pm Friday at the St. Mary's Auditorium. Memorial donations can be made in Leonard's memory to Essence of Life, Amana, Hospice, or Oxford First Responders. Online condolences may be sent for his family through the web @www.gayandciha.com. Leonard F. Tomash was born February 7, 1920, in rural Johnson County, Iowa the son of Frank S. and Anna K. Tomash. He attended old Oxford Country School and later enlisted in the Army earning a Purple Heart while in WWII. He married Maxine Madden in 1942 in Monticello, Missouri. After the service Leonard farmed until 1983, when he worked as a realtor and broker for twenty-five year. He and Maxine lived at several farms in Johnson County and enjoyed traveling south for the winter to McCaulley, Texas. Leonard was a member of the Oxford American Legion and he enjoyed fishing, hunting mushrooms, traveling and was a "fix it man". His family includes his wife, Maxine of Amana; children, Jim (Kim) Tomash of Unionville, IA, Linda (John) Simonson of Unionville, IA; grandchildren, Holly (Les) Driskill, Tarena (Don) Toy, Bowe (Mindy) Tomash, Jeff (Katie) Simonson, J.J. Tomash; great-grandchildren, Chase and Bailey Sick, Trevor and Derek Toy, Mason, Mead and Molly Tomash and Seely Driskill. He was preceded in death by his parents, and brother, Frank Tomash.
